Jemal Hayes - Stylized portraits of women

Artist Statement

I am an American artist who explores the relationship between genders, politics, and emotional memories.

I began painting as a means of dealing with stress.

I found that the free flowing brush strokes conveys a sense of joy and curiosity, my influences are very diverse and help create new synergies that are both exciting and distinctive.

Ever since I was a high school student. I have been fascinated by abstract shapes. They are often poetic and gracefully formed and at times boldly colored,  which forms an imperfectly perfect balance. What starts out as contemplation soon becomes a contravercial conversation  of motion, love & power, leaving the viewer with  a sense of joy  and the prospect of a new beginning.

I have a background in commercial, Graphics & portrait photography, and have operated my own business for 17 years.

“I feel like I was born to be an artist and I am at my happiest when I am creating and sharing my visions with others.”
